Latrigg and Walla Crag

Despite the very cold weather (the highest temperature for the day was only minus 5C!), the recent further powdering of snow along with the prospect of clear skies made walks up these two fells near Keswick too tempting to resist, since both, despite their relatively lowly stature, are renowned for their excellent views. To save time, Latrigg was ascended from half way up the Underscar Road (too icy to drive all the way to the car-park at the top), and afforded fine views across Keswick to the Newlands and Coledale fells in particular. Then back down from there, and after a short drive across Keswick to Great Wood car park, up Cat Gill and over to Walla Crag summit, for superb views towards Keswick and Skiddaw and of Derwentwater and its north- and south-western fells. Information about longer versions of these two walks can be found here and here respectively, and additional photos can be viewed/downloaded here.
(Highest points: Latrigg 1203 ft/ 367 m; Walla Crag 1234 ft/ 376 m.)
