Lingmell & Scafell Pike
This is one of the most majestic walks in the Lake District, even in the disappointing weather (much better conditions had been promised, but... not for nothing is there a plaque on a hotel wall in nearby Stonethwaite saying “In loving memory of a sunny day in Borrowdale”!). Ascent was from Seathwaite, via the Corridor Route to Lingmell, and thence to Scafell Pike summit; back from there via Esk Hause and down Grains Gill. Grandest of rock scenery from the start, especially once Sty Head is gained, the Corridor Route in particular providing a spectacular “viewing gallery”. Height of main peak: 3210 ft/978.4m; distance walked: 15.4km/9.59 miles; height climbed: 1120m/3674 ft.
