The ascent was from Far Easedale (thus avoiding the “tourist route” up Sourmilk Gill), over to the mouth of Easedale Tarn, up from there to Belles Knott, then (following Wainwright’s recommendation) via a sloping shelf above Codale Tarn to the summit. Down again via Blea Crag and Lang How. Views not of the best, due to the occluded skies, but a great round of tarns and peaks in the Grasmere area nevertheless. Distance: 8.6 miles/13.9 km; height: 2537 ft./773m.
