Sergeant Man

The frozen and cloudless conditions made this familiar walk even more spectacular than usual. Ascent was up from near Easedale Tarn to Tarn Crag, on to Fern Gill and thence to Sergeant Man summit, and down via the long ridge of Langdale Edge, over Blea Rigg and finally down again to Easedale near Silver How. The views of the Langdale Pikes were especially fine, even with the bright sun coming from the same direction. The icy conditions made going difficult at times, but, fortunately, a recent powdering of snow on top of previously frozen falls above 2,000 ft. made the final part of the ascent a relatively straightforward prospect, despite lack of crampons (ice-axe nevertheless always to the ready, however!).
