Starting from the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, the ascent was via The Band, and, near its uppermost “neck”, off to the right and along the “Climber’s Traverse” (rather like sections of the path over Crinkle Crags) to Great Slab, and thence to the summit. Descent was via Ore Gap, Angle Tarn and Rossett Gill (with a diversion to Rossett Pike). Weather not brilliant, but in this area - “a bit of heaven fallen upon the earth”, as Wainwright puts it - it was still a great day out! (Distance: 7.8 miles, ascent: 3664 feet.)
