Dove and Hart Crags

The ascent was via Dovedale, along the valley floor, up to Dove Falls and then across to Stangs, onto the Stand Crags ‘edge’, round the top of Hogget Gill and then over to the summit approach via the ‘Fairfield Horseshoe‘ path. The views of the main face of Dove Crag were especially impressive from Stangs onwards, as were, a little later, those down from the top of Hogget’s Gill to the Patterdale ‘floor’.
The route continued on from Dove Crag to Hart Crag summit, and then down from there via Hartsop-above-How, with good views back to the Fairfield ‘massif’, into Deepdale and Dovedale, and, towards the end, of Brothers’ Water, Hartsop and Patterdale.
Along with reasonable weather, this straightforward outing lacks for nothing in all that’s best in Lake District walking and scenery!
