Dow Crag and Coniston Old Man

Dow (pronounced “doe”) Crag is the rugged western “brother” of Coniston Old Man. The route was from Walna Scar car-park, along Walna Scar Road, thence up to Brown Pike and along to the summit of Dow Crag via Buck Pike. Then down to Goat’s Hause, up to Coniston Old Man and back down to the car-park via Low Water. Reasonable views all the way round, especially of Wetherlam, Swirl How, etc., towards the end, a lucky brief break in the current very wet and windy weather (and especially as clouds covered all the tops on my two previous goes round this route last year). (Distance: 5.8 miles, ascent: 2500 ft.)
