Gibson Knott-Helm Crag

Helm Crag and Calf Crag form the south-eastern and north-western ends respectively of a fine ridge near Grasmere, bounded by Easedale to the south and Green Burn to the north. The ascent was from Green Burn, proceeding up its gentle slopes to between Calf Crag and Pike of Carrs, thence doubling back to Gibson Knott and finally Helm Crag and the descent. Cold but brilliant weather, with great views for the second half of the walk down into Easedale and to the south east across Grasmere vale from the splendid ridge path. (Distance: 5 miles/8 km, ascent: 1760 ft/536 m.)
