Hallin Fell

Small can, of course, be beautiful, and this is especially true of this lowly (1271 ft/ 387 m) and compact but shapely fell, which gives excellent views south and north along Ullswater, as well as of Boredale and Martindale, the two secluded vales lying to the east of, respectively, Place Fell and Beda Head (the northern reaches of High Street also run past on the horizon further to the east). In addition, if short of time (as was the case on this occasion) its pleasures can be enjoyed by engaging in no more than 20 minutes stiff uphill trekking from the car park/church at Martindale Hause (though the walk from its base on the shores of Ullswater is also easy and delightful).
