High Street

The first snows of winter which had fallen on parts of High Street’s and its neighbouring fells’ broad summits, plus the changeable weather, made this outing full of very atmospheric views. Ascent was from Hartsop village, up to Hayeswater, slant-wise from there up to Gray Crag “nose”, on to the top, along to Thornthwaite Crag, over to High Street summit, thence to the “rim” overlooking Martindale, and finally back down via Hayeswater from near The Knott.
Highest peak (High Street): 2718 ft./828m; distance: 8 miles/12.8 km; height: 2900 ft./883m
